When to Come

When to Schedule the First Visit

We generally recommend:

The first dental visit around 2 years of age
Earlier if you notice anything unusual such as spots on teeth, delayed eruption, injuries, or other concerns

After the first visit, we usually advise check-ups every 6 months, so that:

Problems can be detected early
Habits can be corrected in time
Children get used to the dental environment and see it as a normal part of life

For specially abled children, an even earlier introduction can be helpful, so they have more time to gradually get comfortable with the clinic and team.

Our Goal

A Positive Start

Our goal is to help your child see the dentist as a friend who cares for their smile, not someone to be afraid of.

What to Expect

A Visit Focused on Meeting, Understanding and Planning

The first appointment is not just about treatment. It is about getting to know your child, understanding your concerns, and planning care in a calm and reassuring way.

Warm Welcome and Registration

You will be greeted and basic details will be taken. We may also ask you to fill in a short medical and dental history form.

Discussion with Parents

We talk about your child’s age, habits, medical history, diet, brushing routine and any thumb-sucking or other habits. For specially abled children, we also ask about diagnosis, therapy, communication style and sensory preferences.

Gentle Introduction for the Child

We introduce the child to the dental chair, mirror and simple instruments in a non-threatening way. If the child feels anxious, we may spend more time simply helping them feel comfortable.

Oral Examination

We check the teeth, gums, bite and soft tissues, and look for early signs of decay, enamel defects, eruption patterns and other visible issues. X-rays are taken only if necessary and after explaining the need to you.

Findings and Explanation

We explain what we see in simple, clear language and discuss any problems, risk factors and options for preventive or corrective care.

Plan and Next Steps

If treatment is needed, we outline a step-by-step plan. If not, we focus on prevention, guidance and regular reviews. Often, the first visit is more about assessment and getting acquainted than doing a lot of treatment in one go.

Appointment Prep

What to Bring to the Appointment

To make the visit smoother and more informative, it helps if you bring:

Previous dental records: old X-rays, prescriptions or treatment notes
Medical reports: details of medical conditions, medications, hospitalisations or therapy-related reports
List of medicines and allergies: current medicines with doses and any known drug, food or latex allergies
Comfort items: favourite toy, book, blanket or headphones that help your child feel safe
Bottle or snacks only if needed: for very young children, carry something for after the appointment and avoid snacks just before the examination

Bringing this information helps us plan safe, individualised care for your child right from the first visit.

Special Support

Helpful for Specially Abled Children

We want the first appointment to feel manageable and respectful of each child’s needs.

Share a brief written note or message in advance if there are specific triggers such as bright lights or certain sounds
Tell us what helps your child feel calmer so we can work around those strategies wherever possible
Bring visual supports or social stories if your child is already used to them

A little preparation helps us make the clinic feel more familiar, predictable and safe from the very first visit.

Treatment Planning

How We Plan the Next Steps

After the examination, we guide you through a simple and thoughtful treatment plan whenever care is needed.

1

Prioritising Urgent Needs

Pain, swelling or infection
Deep cavities that may progress quickly
Broken or injured teeth

The aim is to ensure your child is comfortable and out of pain as early as possible.

2

Planning Definitive Treatment

Fillings, crowns or root canal treatments
Space maintainers if a tooth is lost early
Preventive care such as fluoride and sealants
3

Scheduling Appointments

Shorter, manageable visits for young or anxious children
Timings when the child is more likely to be rested and cooperative
Urgent care first, preventive and follow-up later
4

Long-Term Prevention Plan

Regular 6-monthly check-ups
Age-appropriate prevention, diet and habit guidance
Monitoring growth, eruption and jaw development
Preparation Tips

How to Prepare Your Child for the Dentist

How you prepare your child has a big impact on their experience. Small changes in language and routine can make a big difference.

Talk positively: “The dentist will count your teeth and help keep them strong.”
Avoid threats: don’t use injections or the dentist as a warning
Keep it simple: too many details can increase anxiety
Set expectations: explain that they may need to open wide or sit still for a short time
Schedule when your child is not too tired or hungry
Avoid heavy meals just before the visit
Bring a favourite toy or comfort item
Arrive a few minutes early to settle in
Stay calm and let us take the lead in child-friendly explanations
Praise your child’s effort, even if everything did not go perfectly
Highlight positive moments instead of small difficulties
If another visit is needed, present it as a normal follow-up

Over time, with consistent support, most children learn to feel comfortable and confident at the dentist.

Highly recommend Dr. Swati! We took our 3-year-old for a cavity treatment, and the experience was seamless. Dr. Swati prioritised our child's comfort from the start, performing the checkup right on her mother’s lap. The entire treatment took just 10 minutes—completely painless and without tears. My daughter didn't even realize the filling was being done. Dr. Swati combines genuine competence with an exceptional, patient-first temperament. A rare and fantastic doctor. Highly recommend!

Dr. Swati Karkare is truly one of the most genuine, caring, and cheerful doctors I have ever met.

My son is 9 years old, and before the treatment he was extremely scared. Like most children, he was worried that it would hurt and that he would have to take injections, so he was not ready for the procedure at all. However, from the moment we entered the clinic, Dr. Swati made him feel comfortable. She engaged him in friendly conversations, kept him relaxed, and gradually took away all his fear.

We consulted Dr Swati Karkare madam for our 3 years old child when he started getting cavity in his teeth. We were so worried about his dental health. Dr Swati Madam did filling and preserved his teeth. Her mastery in handling children on that fearful dental chair is at par. She also guided us nicely about dental care in future for prevention from getting cavities. Thank you Dr Swati Karkare madam. You are the best Pediatric dentist in Nashik.

Overall it’s been a delightful experience.. Dr Swati’s exceptional way of handling took away the nervousness out of my kids mind. My kids are very comfortable and although we stay in Navi Mumbai, they prefer taking consultation from Dr Swati rather than the nearby dentist. Thank you so much😊😊
